The medical needs of your pet change as they age. Many of the diseases that they may develop can be prevented or treated and managed if detected early, and the correct steps are taken. Most treatment plans for these conditions require medications that are affordable and easy to give. Early detection is key in helping your pet live a long, happy life.
A complete wellness examination and early detection lab work can help to detect conditions such as heart, liver, kidney, dental disease, thyroid, diabetes, and more. The doctors and staff of the Animal Hospital of Orleans support the early detection of diseases in our pets. There is no one single test that can determine your pet's health. Early detection lab work is a series of tests that are customized to your pet's age and lifestyle. Our pets are designed to hide signs of illness. Early detection lab work will often find abnormalities weeks or even months before your pet would have started acting sick.
Which tests are included in the early detection lab work and how much does it cost?
The following tests are included:
1. CBC (complete blood count) - provides important information about the types and numbers of blood cells in your pet's blood. A low number of red blood cells, for example, indicates anemia, while a high number of white blood cells can indicate an infection, chronic inflammation, or other diesease process.
2. Blood Chemistry Profile - particularly important for evaluating organ function (e.g. liver, kidneys), electrolytes, blood sugar (diabetes), intestinal disorders and certain types of cancer. Any abnormalities will help direct us on any further diagnostic tests that may be necessary.
3. T4 - measures the level of a thyroid hormone and helps to screen for hypothyroidism (low) and hyperthyroidism (too high) diseases.
4. Urinalysis - evaluates overall kidney function. It is also a key test for determining if there is a urinary tract infection or inflammation in the bladder. It will also confirm if your pet has diabetes.
Our early detection lab work is offered as a package that is significantly discounted so that we are able to help our faithful, furry friends be as comfortable and healthy as possible. Click HERE to view the cost and details of this program.
