Surgery & Anesthesia
We understand that it can be very stressful when your pet has surgery and would like to assure you that at the Animal Hospital of Orleans your pet will receive the highest quality of care. Our patients safety and comfort are our top priority.
Before an elective surgery, such as a spay or neuter, or a dental procedure every patient receives a physical exam to assess their health. We also recommend pre-anesthetic bloodwork for all of our elective surgery patients to ensure that there are no pre-existing conditions or issues that need to be addressed before anesthesia. It is recommended to have your pet’s blood drawn prior to the day of surgery. For major surgeries such as mass removals and abdominal surgery, pre-anesthetic bloodwork is required.
Every surgical patient has a technician dedicated to monitoring anesthesia and vital signs. All surgeries are also constantly monitored for oxygen saturation and pulse rate using pulse oximetry. Blood pressure and EKG monitoring are also available when required. We use the safest anesthesia available – the same one used in human hospitals.
Our hospital strongly believes in pain control and it is included in the cost of all our surgeries and extensive dental cleanings. With the wide array of effective pain control medications available today, we have many options to help make your pet as comfortable as possible after surgery. For many procedures, our therapeutic laser can also be used to reduce inflammation and speed up healing.

“Wonderful Vet. Care so much about all of our animals. Always efficient and you never have to wait too long. All the staff are very cool, great place to take your furry kids.”
